About the product UI

Channeling Teenage Engineering's design ethos: playful mechanical clarity, color-coded rotary controls, and expressive vector physics.

Inspired by Teenage Engineering's uncompromising industrial and digital craft, this UI system translates intricate DSP sound-design engines into vibrant, immediate graphical worlds. Rather than relying on skeuomorphic knobs or generic digital sliders, each screen introduces a unique visual metaphor—from real-time oscilloscope ripples to mechanical 4-track tape spools—inviting intuitive experimentation without cognitive friction.

Design & Interaction Physics

Designing high-legibility vector graphics calibrated for 1:1 hardware encoder alignment.

Synthesizer interfaces must communicate complex acoustic dynamics—envelope curves, filter cutoffs, and frequency modulation—in split seconds on compact displays. We mapped four persistent color axes directly to the hardware's rotary dials, establishing consistent spatial relationships across all 16 engine modes. Whether tweaking a resonant 24-band vocoder or dialing in physical spring reverb dampening, the visual feedback remains instant, tactile, and delightfully responsive.

Summary

A cohesive graphical design language that makes sound design feel physical, intuitive, and deeply rewarding.

The OP-1 Field Screen Graphics project demonstrates how thoughtful design engineering transforms complex technical parameters into engaging, approachable play. By harmonizing vector physics, color-coded rotary ergonomics, and retro-futuristic typography, the system stands as a tribute to Teenage Engineering's design philosophy—where instruments feel simultaneously like precision studio tools and delightful creative toys.
